ST Electronics Wins S$10m Contract For
On-Train Passenger Information Systems For
Singapore Downtown Line

Singapore, 3 March 2010 — ST Electronics today announced that it has been awarded a contract worth about RMB48m (about S$10m) by Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Co Ltd (CBRC), a Joint Venture of Bombardier Inc. and China CNR Corporation Limited. The contract is to provide Passenger Information Systems (PIS) for the Singapore Downtown Line (DTL) metro vehicles, a project awarded to Bombardier* by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore.

This contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.

The PIS will be installed in 73 trains or a total of 219 cars and will provide comprehensive real-time audio and multimedia information to passengers via its public announcement, LED and LCD sub-systems to enhance the passenger travel experience on the MRT.  Work on the project commences immediately and will be completed by second half of 2015.  ST Electronics will design, manufacture and commission the PIS for the Singapore Downtown MRT Line with contribution from its wholly owned subsidiary in Shanghai, China.  In 2008, ST Electronics was awarded a contract to provide a Communications System for Downtown Lines 1, 2 and 3 which will be delivered by 2016.

The award of this contract is yet another indication that the ongoing efforts to localise our production in China has reached a level which will enable ST Electronics to work closely and cost-effectively with partners like CBRC. This effort has positioned us well to deliver high quality, reliable and cost-effective rail electronics solutions to a global customer base.

LEE Fook Sun,
President, ST Electronics

In 2009, ST Electronics was awarded a PIS project in China for delivery to Saudi Arabia.  The company has provided PIS systems for various MRT/LRT (Light Rail Transit) lines in Singapore including the North-South, East-West, North-East, Bukit Panjang, Sengkang and Punggol Lines since 1998.

Since 1983, ST Electronics has established a strong presence in the rail transportation market in Singapore, China, Dubai, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.  It has deployed quality and comprehensive rail solutions that include PIS, Automated Fare Collection Systems, Platform Screen Doors, Integrated Command, Control and Communication Systems, Maintenance Management Systems, Integrated Supervisory Control Systems and Traffic Command Centres.

To date, the company has been awarded more than ten rail projects in China, consisting of a full range of rail electronics systems in Guangzhou, Nanjing, and Shenzhen as well as an Integrated Traffic Command Centre System for the rapidly growing Beijing mass transit network.  The Beijing system is the first of its kind in China and now provides the city with the benefits of an efficient centralised network-based operation.
