Archive News in Year 2008November 2008ST Electronics Wins S$160m Communications & Integrated Supervisory Control Contracts From LTA For Marina Coastal Expressway and Downtown MRT Line
Singapore, 7 November 2008 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), has won approximately S$160m worth of contracts from the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) for the supply of the Communications System of Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) and the Communications System & Integrated Supervisory Control System for the Downtown Line (DTL) Mass Rapid Transit System. ST Electronics will begin work on both projects immediately. Its work on the MCE project is expected to be completed by 2013 and the DTL project by 2016. These contracts are not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year. ST Electronics will design, supply and commission the entire Communications System of the MCE, including necessary modification works to the existing Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) Communications System to ensure seamless integration of the MCE and KPE Communications Systems. MCE is a five-lane dual-carriageway expressway, with a total route length of about 5km of which about 3.6km is in the tunnel. It provides a new strategic underground east-west transport link between the KPE and the East Coast Parkway in the east and the Ayer Rajah Expressway in the west, with direct connections to the new Marina South financial centre. Like the Circle Line, DTL will be operated as a fully automatic driverless system. It is approximately 40km long and will be fully underground. ST Electronics will design, supply, install and commission the Communications and Integrated Supervisory Control Systems. These systems will provide the Command, Control and Communication between trains, stations, depots and Operations Control Centre for an efficient, reliable and safe mode of transportation in Singapore.
ST Electronics, which is also involved in the upcoming Circle Line, has since 1983 established a strong presence in the rail transportation market in Singapore, the Philippines, Taiwan, China, Thailand and the UAE.
