ST Electronics Wins S$17.5m MRT Contract For Guangzhou Line 3 North Extension

Singapore, 5 June 2008 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), today announced that it has been awarded a contract worth RMB88.7m (approximately S$17.5m) to provide Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) systems for Guangzhou Metro Line 3 North Extension in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province in China.  This contract was secured through its subsidiary, ST Electronics-PCI Co Ltd.  This is ST Electronics’ fifth MRT project in Guangzhou.  The contract was awarded by Guangzhou Metro Corporation.
This contract award is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.

Under the contract which is scheduled to begin in May 2008 and is expected to be completed by October 2010, ST Electronics will design, manufacture, commission and maintain the AFC system which includes two line central computers, 13 station computer systems, over 200 fare gates, ticket vending machines, booking office machines, ticket checking machines, ticket encoder/sorters and two million tokens. The AFC system will utilise contact-less smart cards for stored value tickets and contact-less smart tokens for single journey tickets. The system will cover 11 underground stations of Guangzhou Line 3 North Extension from Guangzhou East Station to New Airport North, making up a total of 30.7km.

I am delighted that ST Electronics has once again won the contract to provide Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) systems for Guangzhou Metro Line 3 North Extension in Guangzhou. We are proud to be part of the rapid growth of the metro transportation in the City of Guangzhou. We will continue to pursue infrastructure and transportation solutions in various major Chinese cities.
