Malaysian Satellite Operator ScopeTel Standardises Services On iDirect Platform

Migration to improve bandwidth efficiency, enable ScopeTel to host virtual network operators

Herndon, Va., 29 April, 2008 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited’s (ST Electronics) US satellite communication company, iDirect Inc. (iDirect), announced today that it has won a contract from ScopeTel Sdn. Bhd., a major provider of satellite-based telecommunication and networking solutions headquartered in Malaysia. The contract includes the purchase of an iDirect Series 15000 Universal Hub, Web Optimizer and multiple iNFINITI 3000 and iNFINITI 5000 Series Satellite Routers. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.  ST Electronics is the electronics arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd.

ScopeTel will consolidate its current customer networks onto iDirect’s satellite communications platform in an effort to increase bandwidth efficiency and simplify network management. The operator will replace its Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC) systems with a shared Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) platform and integrate customer networks that span multiple topologies and vertical markets, including the maritime, oil and gas, enterprise, government and education sectors. In addition, ScopeTel plans to leverage the iDirect platform to support virtual network operators (VNOs) across Southeast Asia that are seeking to establish private satellite networks in the region.

By standardising on the iDirect platform, ScopeTel is able to reduce its operating expenses and expand into growing markets through critical new functionality. This important decision is a strategic investment in the future of our business.
