ST Electronics Introduces Simulation
To The Virtual Environment

Singapore, 23 January 2008 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), has through its subsidiary, ST Electronics (Training & Simulation Systems) Pte Ltd (STEE-T&S), developed the Smart Scenario Generator (SSG) to allow different simulators and Artificial Intelligence (AI) engines to interact seamlessly with each other in a common virtual environment.  It can be deployed in various application domains, such as simulation, animation, games and effects. SSG is on display at the IDC Asia Centre of Temasek Polytechnic.  STEE-T&S is one of the key industry partners for the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) programme, which supports IDM research and development in Singapore.

Currently the virtual worlds are mostly proprietary.  Through the SSG, different virtual worlds with different fidelity, systems, communication protocols can be sophisticatedly linked to form a “meta-verse”, thereby solving the problem for connectivity and inter-operability.  Most avatars in the virtual world are simply proxy of the users and can only move in pre-determined paths.  The company enhances the fidelity of navigation in the virtual world by creating intelligent avatars to provide a compelling interactive user experience.  By applying games AI in the network virtual environment, avatars created using the SSG have the total freedom to navigate freely in the virtual world.

We see a lot of synergies between the IDM initiatives and our business areas of SAGE [Simulation, Animation, Games, Effects and (Location Based) Entertainment].  We have set up the Centre of Interactive Media (CIM) to focus our R&D efforts in SAGE.  CIM will collaborate with overseas institutes of higher learning to jointly develop and exploit mutual Intellectual Properties.
