ST Electronics Wins S$60m Contract In The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia
To deliver Integrated Traffic Management and Security Systems for Automated Traffic Violations Administering and Monitoring (ATVAM)
Singapore, 13 September 2007 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) Pte Ltd, has won a contract worth about S$60m to provide Integrated Traffic Management and Security Systems for the Automated Traffic Violations Administering and Monitoring (ATVAM) project awarded by the General Traffic Directorate / Ministry of Interior (MOI) for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. ST Electronics is the electronics arm of ST Engineering.
This contract award is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
ST Electronics will work closely with the Consortium of Al-Afandi of Saudi Arabia to design, supply, implement, operate and maintain an Intelligent Transport Management and Security System for three major areas of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The three regions include the Eastern Province (Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran), Aseer Province (Abha, Khamis Mushait and Ahad Rufaidah) and Tabuk City.
This solution includes an Integrated Traffic Management Central Control System, Traffic Signal and Control Management System, Dynamic Message Signs System, Video-based Incident Detection System, Vehicle Tracking Security System (License Plate Recognition), Mobile Vehicle Tracking Security System and Automatic Vehicle Locator System. Built on an open architecture, this highly automated and robust system will deploy state-of-the-art technologies to provide early detection of incidents on the road, enhance road safety, minimise traffic congestion, enhance security and ensure smooth integration of various sub-systems.
ST Electronics will deliver the Intelligent Transport Management System over a period of 2 years from early 2008. It won this contract against competition from major international players. The winning of this contract has escalated ST Electronics’ global status as a leading infocomm technologies solutions provider for intelligent transportation system.
We found in ST Electronics a good partner to provide an integrated transportation solution for this project as they have been actively involved with the Land Transport Authority in the development of the good transportation system here in Singapore. The two companies have a good understanding of the needs in the area of transportation and will certainly work towards delivering an advanced system for Saudi Arabia.
