Satcoms Solutions From ST Electronics
@ CommunicAsia 2006

Singapore, 9 June 2006 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) will showcase full spectrum Wireless Broadband Solutions at CommunicAsia 2006.

ST Electronics offers a complete end-to-end satcom solution which includes very small aperture terminals and network solutions as well as satellite-based broadband access solutions.  With the capability to integrate various mediums into a seamless hybrid network — combining traditional broadband, satellite and other wireless applications, we address all communications needs.  ST Electronics offers satellite service providers the functionality and scalability to support multiple networks with various requirements for satellite bands, topologies or bandwidth.  This expanded product offering is achieved through synergy of its satcoms capabilities through its subsidiary, ST Electronics (Satcom & Sensor Systems) Pte Ltd and satellite-based broadband access solutions from iDirect Technologies which joined the group in November 2005.

Highlights include Digital Microwave Radios links for various transmission needs and the Agilis VSAT sub-systems.

Agilis Digital Microwave Radio Links

The Agilis range of Digital Microwave Radio system provides point-to-point microwave radio transmission in PDH and SDH applications. Available in a wide frequency range, Agilis microwave radios are highly durable, flexible and suited for all-weather environments.

Designed with scalability, Agilis radios support multiple applications, are reliable, easy to install and are cost-effective solution for transmission networks.

Agilis VSAT Equipment

  Multi-mode modem

The AMM 1800 Multi-mode satellite modem is an innovatively developed solution capable of operating in three different modes — namely, CDMA, IESS and PSK. Its ability to operate in an interference scenario as well as with a reduction in interference from adjacent satellites makes it adaptable to operate in dynamic and diverse communication environments.

The solution is designed with the need for increased revenue and enhanced returns on investment of our customers in mind. The CDMA carrier in AMM 1800 has the ability to overlay the existing SCPC carriers, which provides more capacity to the customer’s service, resulting in the ability to have more users access the same bandwidth at the same time. The modem can also act as a versatile computing platform when incorporated with the necessary software.

  Low Cost BUC (Block Upconverter)

Agilis 2W Low Cost C-Band BUC (Block-Upconverter) is a cost-effective outdoor RF transmitter for satellite communication. Easy to install, it is redundancy-ready and field-proven for any harsh operating environment. The BUC is suitable for both data and voice communication operating in different modulation formats including BPSK, QPSK, QAM and FM.

Agilis C-Band BUC is designed for the SCPC (Single Channel Per Carrier) network configurations and for the low or intermediate data rate for MCPC (Multi-Carrier Per Channel), DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) or TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) applications.

Agilis C-Band BUC offers a wide range of distinctive advantages and enhanced features for satellite communications systems based in remote or challenging geographic regions. The equipment employs L-Band interface to the indoor unit.  Altogether the Agilis C-Band BUC is a low cost solution suitable for broadband application (such as DVB-RCS) in satellite IP networks.

Features :
  • Low cost, compact model with direct to feed mounting
  • Internal ALC functions with level stability over temperature better than ±0.5 dB
  • Adjustable gain
  • Low phase noise characteristics
  • Low spurious
  • Low power consumption

  Enhanced Network Management System

The Enhanced Network Management System (ENMS) is a solution that delivers comprehensive network management, flexible and scalable enough to meet the needs of the largest enterprise’s advanced networks. This solution is designed to enable network administrators to identify and resolve problems and performance bottlenecks before they impact their network systems.

The Enhanced Network Management System empowers its users to rapidly configure, manage and troubleshoot multi-vendor networks from a central location. The solution has been designed to be deployed in the Network Operation Centre of large enterprises and service providers worldwide to provide carrier-class functionality, scalability, and reliability. Due to its unique ability to use distributed architecture, the ENMS is expandable and adaptable to multiple nodes as well as networks.

Applications :
  • Commercial and Military VSAT Networks
  • Terrestrial Microwave and Broadcasting Network
  • Corporate IP Network

Wireless Broadband Communication - Anytime, anywhere

We provide access solutions for high-speed mobile productivity over satellite, delivering total connectivity that is always available anywhere in the world. Customers can rely on the same user experience they would get from traditional landline networks without the geographical constraints. It is reliable, cost-effective and secure.

Our broadband solution offers :
  • High bandwidth speeds with throughput of up to 18 Mbps
  • Portability and low power consumption
  • Central management to ensure authentication and security
  • Rapid deployment anywhere
  • Connectivity on moving vessels and vehicles
  • Easy and seamless integration with the existing IP network
Applications and Benefits :
  • A centralised network management system manages all remote units from a central location.
  • Increased bandwidth efficiency — supports more applications and carry greater volume of traffic over available bandwidth.
  • Supports real time applications — deploys applications like voice and video with the most flexible and granular Quality of Service (QoS) capability in the industry.
  • Capacity optimisation — 1.2 carrier spacing delivers 14% savings in bandwidth, and by using a native IP solution another 10-50% capacity saving compared with inefficient MPEG encapsulation.
  • Security — our broadband solutions enables the deployment of government or corporate approved VPN solutions over satellite networks without loss of either TCP performance or support for real-time applications such as VoIP and streaming video.
