e-Government Solutions @ CommunicAsia 2006
From ST Electronics

Singapore, 1 June 2006 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) showcases a number of e-government solutions at CommunicAsia 2006 (Singapore Expo, Hall 3, Booth no. 3F3-01, 20 – 23 June 2006).  These include an eNotification system for mass notification of crises, intelligent school solutions, intelligent transport solutions, information security solutions, wireless communication solutions, etc.  Having supplied secure remote access infrastructure to Singapore government for access to IT resources via Internet connection, ST Electronics’ range of info-security systems and solutions offer peace-of-mind when working whether in office or remotely.

ST Electronics’ solutions are designed to help its customers experience a Service Transformation™.  This is aimed at allowing its public sector customers to transform their service offering to their end-users (ie customer of customers services).  Its theme - Your Partner in Service Transformation -- reflects this focus.  This approach makes the end-user the focus, offering solutions that will help customers achieve maximum customer satisfaction, promote operational efficiency while ensuring total security for both customers and end-users.

Digital Image Security & Authentication

Secure your digital photographs with StegMark®. StegMark provides copyright protection and ensures the authenticity of digital content such as digital photographs. The solution utilises patented digital watermarking technologies and cryptographic standards to embed copyright information and to detect for any modification in the digital photographs. StegMark is now being offered in the CF Card, allowing protection to the stored digital photographs.

eNotification System

This is a cost-effective, scalable and automated system for rapid and mass notification of people for major events, daily business activities or emergency situations.  ST Electronics’ eNotification System is its latest solution for homeland security agencies such as the police, civil defence and military forces.

It supports both voice and text-based notifications, which makes it user-friendly while significantly reducing the time required to notify mass numbers of people. For voice-based notifications, the system notifies a database of recipients via their mobile, home or office telephone contact. Text-based notification involves sending notification messages via SMS, email and/or facsimile.

The system also comes with web-based administration console for user to define organisation specific notification profiles such as notification schedules, frequency, and mode of contact (voice, SMS, email or fax). The user can input the contact list via the web-based administration console, a spreadsheet, or other application(s) via an Application Interface (API).

Intelligent Schools and E-learning Solutions

I-School Applications

Schools are increasingly turning to technology to provide their students with a more vibrant learning environment and to achieve greater efficiency in daily operations.

ST Electronics’ i-school solutions are developed to provide educational institutions with better facilities management and control, resulting in more efficient use of resources by students and lessening administrative workload for staff. Our applications and solutions have been used in Junior Colleges and ITE Regional Campus.  They allow users to leverage on their smart card to perform a wide range of administrative activities. These solutions can be used for a number of purposes.

  1. Attendance Tracking System was developed to enable lecturers to utilise their time more efficiently for teaching, the Attendance Tracking Module encourages the students to take their own attendance at specifically located readers. By flashing their smart card at the reader, the information is being sent real-time to the backend data server, allowing the staff to print reports or charts of the individual or class for analysis, anytime, anywhere.
  2. Facility Booking System/ Equipment Booking & Loan Tracking System allows users to book rooms at specific times for meetings or other school activities. Similar to the access control system, readers are installed outside the facilities permitting access only to authorised smartcard holders. Bookings for use of equipment may also be made via the portal for shared equipment such as PCs, lockers, printers and photocopiers.  Our booking and loan tracking system covers the entire workflow of booking, authenticating, tracking and payment for the loan of the equipment.
  3. Kiosk System allows users to perform a wide spectrum of applications that are available campus-wide including booking of shared equipment, checking of results, paying of fees or fines, do purchasing or simply to log on to the portal to view information such as school activities and events.
  4. Electronic Payment provides for an easier administration of funds by allowing payments to be made electronically. Integrating with some form of authentication mechanism, students may pay for their school fees, lunch or stationery with their student smart card.  As a lost card may be blacklisted to prevent others from using it in the campus, the smart card is less susceptible to theft as compared to cash.

Multimedia Education Resource Interactive Teacher System (MERiTS)

Leveraging on its capabilities in training and simulation solutions, ST Electronics has developed MERiTS for today’s teaching professionals. It is a robust, scalable and cost-effective interactive classroom and learning management system to help teachers conduct classes more effectively and efficiently. MERiTS utilises user-friendly interface to integrate the requirements of self-paced learning and teacher-led sessions into a single system.  With highly interactive features it allows simultaneous screen and desktop broadcast, remote and continuous monitoring, direct screen annotation, real-time audio and video streaming, secure login, internet access control, performance tracking, remote device-locking, text and voice conversation management and many other features.

Infosecurity Solutions for Secured Communications

ST Electronics’ range of information security and encryption devices are robust and provide peace of mind as they offer protection of your data even against theft.

  • DeskCrypt is a hardware-based encryptor to protect data in IDE hard disk drive. Uniquely designed as a bump-in-the-wire device on the IDE cable, it requires no external mounting and sits comfortably between the connector and hard disk drive. It operates transparently and encrypts all data written into the hard disk without any loss in disk performance.  Once deployed, users can be assured that all the data on their hard disk(s) is fully protected from unauthorised access even if the hard disk is removed.  DeskCrypt supports pre-boot authentication to authenticate the user by means of a password or an optional DigiSAFE KeyCrypt USB cryptographic token.
  • DiskCrypt is secure notebook hard disk drive consisting of a cryptographic module and a hard disk drive that encrypts all data that is written into the hard disk to provide total data protection. DiskCrypt encrypts every single sector transparently in hardware without any loss in disk performance.  It does not require any software drivers or applications to be installed and is operating system independent. It supports pre-booth authentication to authenticate the user by means of a password or DigiSAFE KeyCrypt USB cryptographic token.
  • KeyCrypt® is a multi-functional USB cryptographic token for logical and physical access control. Incorporating a cryptographic smartcard chip, an RFID tag and a USB flash drive into a single portable tamper-resistant token, KeyCrypt allows easily integration of single sign-on, identity management, PKI and Java application to provide strong two-factor authentication.

i-transport System (with the Land Transport Authority)

Working with the Land Transport Authority, ST Electronics delivers an i-transport System, the new generation Intelligent Transportation System that provides a common and centralised platform to consolidate data from individual traffic systems and centralises traffic control and incident management interfaces among various sub-systems.

It also simplifies user interfaces for data retrieval and aggregates the data into a Transport Information Hub.  The result — faster, more accurate and meaningful traffic information readily accessible to traffic controllers, general public, motorists, fleet owners, media broadcasters and Internet service providers.

Command, Control & Communication (C3) Network

The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Command, Control & Communication Network is a common, integrated network infrastructure that links all the voice and data networks of the individual Home Team’s command centres as well as the police stations, police posts, hospitals and fire stations located nationwide-wide.  This enables the three Home Teams to interoperate and communicate effectively and efficiently.
