ST Electronics Awarded $4m Contract
For Singapore Prison Service

Singapore, 30 June 2006 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) has, through its wholly-owned subsidiary ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) Pte Ltd, been awarded a $4m contract by the Singapore Prison Service.   ST Electronics is the electronics arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering).

The award of this contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.

ST Electronics will provide the network infrastructure for Singapore Prison Service’s new Changi Prison Complex (CPC) Cluster B.  Cluster B is part of the on-going redevelopment project at Changi Prison undertaken to realise the Singapore Prison Service’s long-term goal of centralising all prison institutions as part of its vision of becoming true ‘Captains of Lives’.   More importantly, the new purpose-built Changi Prison will enable Singapore Prison Service to deploy officers more effectively to ensure greater efficiency in the management of inmates, so as to provide more of the latest rehabilitation programmes to help inmates rehabilitate, renew and restart their lives.

ST Electronics will design and implement a secured network infrastructure with fiber connectivity for the six blocks at Cluster B. This network infrastructure project is targeted to complete by 2008.

As a leader in infocommunication and e-Government solutions, ST Electronics has a proven track record in delivering innovative solutions to the Singapore government and its agencies.  Following its award of the IDA Period Bulk Contract in Network Infrastructure Systems, it has won a number of contracts from various government agencies.

ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) is happy to play a part in this national effort to enhance the connectivity of our society through infocomm technology. With more than 20 years of experience in the implementation of large-scale communication systems and enterprise solutions for the public sector, we provide our customers with leading edge solutions that will continue to contribute to Singapore’s infocomm development.

LAU Thiam Beng,
President, ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems)

Having designed and implemented some of the most sophisticated, mission-critical infocommunication systems in Singapore, ST Electronics’ expertise in e-Government and enterprise solutions has also gained international recognition.  It recently won a $11m  contract from the Maldives Government to implement a Metropolitan Area Network for the government and its related agencies across 24 islands. This new leading edge infocommunication network structure will support Maldives’ e-Government applications and infrastructure, thereby achieving its vision of a networked and interconnected nation. In Botswana, ST Electronics is implementing a pay-as-you-earn withholding personal income tax system and a crime and criminal recording system for the Botswana Government and Police.

Back in Singapore, ST Electronics e-Government projects include the implementation of a secure virtual private network for remote access infrastructure in Singapore for access to IT resources via Internet connection as well as a trusted vault system for secure document management (including digital watermarking solution) for Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority.
