ST Electronics Wins Beijing Mass Transit System Contract
Singapore, 28 March 2006 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), the electronics arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering), today announced it has won a mass transit system contract in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. The contract, worth approximately RMB 78.56 million (about S$15.90m) will provide an Integrated Traffic Command Centre System for the rapidly growing Beijing mass transit network. Awarded by Beijing Mass Transit Network Management & Support Company, the contract was won jointly with ST Electronics’ Chinese partners, TsingHua TongFang Co., Ltd and China Railway Electrification Bureau Group. ST Electronics' share of the contract is RMB 35 million (about S$7m). This is a significant contract win related to the Beijing Olympics.
This contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
Under this contract, the consortium will design, supply, install and commission a state-of-the-art traffic command centre (TCC) system to supervise the Beijing mass transit traffic network. The TCC system, the first of its kind in China, will provide Beijing with the benefits of an efficient centralised network-based operation. In coordination with metro entities, government departments and other agencies, Beijing Mass Transit Traffic Network will be able to supervise the daily operations, including emergency incidents efficiently, effectively and safely.
This project is scheduled to begin at the end of March 2006 and the first phase of the TCC will be operational by August 2008, before the start of the Beijing Olympics. The contract is expected to be completed by end of 2011.
This is another major mass transit related contract secured by ST Electronics in China and attests to ST Electronics’ ability to design and deliver quality and safe rail solutions. This new contract has also strengthened the market’s acceptance of ST Electronics system solutions capabilities in China and we are privileged to be able to contribute to the building of the infrastructure for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
