ST Electronics And Singapore Telecommunications Launch  Broadband IP Solution For The Maritime Industry

Singapore, 23 March 2006 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), through its subsidiary ST Electronics (Satcom & Sensor Systems) Pte Ltd and Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel), have concluded an exclusive collaboration agreement to jointly provide a compact 1.2 metre diameter stabilised Ext-C band antenna system to address a large and untapped market base of smaller shipping vessels.

This is part of SingTel Satellite division’s newly launched Maritime VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) service for the maritime industry.  Coverage for the service will initially be available for the Asia Pacific region and provides high-speed two-way IP broadband connectivity to a shipping vessel using a stabilised antenna system on board and connected via SingTel's ST-1 satellite.  SingTel Maritime VSAT service is a fixed monthly charge service. With this, SingTel hopes to benefit the higher traffic volume users in the maritime industry.
In providing this Maritime VSAT service, SingTel will leverage on ST Electronics’ expertise in the design and engineering of VSAT solutions, as well as strong technical service support in the region.  To position SingTel Maritime VSAT as a global service, the Marine VSAT Service will have its coverage extended to the Atlantic Ocean region at a later date.

ST Electronics developed the world's smallest C-Band VSAT terminal in 2005. We are proud to partner SingTel, to quickly customise and deploy this technology for a shipborne maritime application.  Together, we expect to deliver a superior maritime VSAT service that will offer shipping vessels unprecedented communications capability.

SEAH Moon Ming,
President, ST Electronics

We are pleased to collaborate with ST Electronics to jointly develop one of the smallest, stabilised C-Band antennas that will fit perfectly into the limited space of smaller vessels.  With this partnership, we can offer our customers, especially the smaller vessel operators, an innovative voice and high-speed data solution that will meet their communications needs when they are at sea.

Masagos ZULKIFLI
Vice President, SingTel Satellite
