SINGAPORE, 1 November 2004 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) has been awarded a contract to supply an Air Traffic Control Aerodrome Visual Simulator to India’s Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC). The contract was awarded to its wholly-owned subsidiary SES Systems Pte Ltd (SES).
This is a significant milestone for SES as it marks a step forward in the company’s entry into India’s aviation market. The contract was awarded by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to SES as a result of a successful global tender against international competitors from Europe, North America and Asia. The system comprises the turnkey supply of a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control (ATC) Aerodrome Visual Simulator, which includes software systems customisation is to be delivered, installed and commissioned at the CATC.
With the aid of the ATC Aerodrome Visual Simulator, trainees and instructors can train and be trained for their work in various weather conditions, eg. monsoon rains and foggy winters. The ATC Aerodrome Visual Simulator will be located at the CATC in Allahabad, India.
“The AAI contract represents a significant milestone achievement for SES to establish a presence in the Indian market. This international project has indeed validated SES’ investment in pursuing the development of expertise in ATC simulation systems and for supplying and maintaining such simulation systems.”
~ Mr Chang Yew Kong,
President, SES
The SES designed ATC Aerodrome Visual Simulator features the full suite of computer-generated visual scenery and three-dimensional models simulating the view from airport control towers at various airports in India. Upon its commission, trainees at the CATC will benefit from realistic training immersed in the full 3-D visual and audio simulated environments of air traffic control towers in India. CATC instructors will enjoy the ability to conduct rigorous instruction sessions and evaluate trainees’ progress without the risks and costs of traditional on-the-job training. To achieve this realism, SES utilises the FIRSTplus ATC simulation software licensed from Raytheon Canada.
SES has been making its mark as a provider of public safety solutions at home and in the region. It won a contract from the Hong Kong Fire Services Department to implement their Third Generation Mobilising System.
At home, SES set up Singapore’s first Linux Knowledge Centre, offering open source Linux solutions, consultancy services, training courses, Linux development and porting solutions to customers in Singapore and the region. The company’s expertise in biometrics solutions is also evident in Singapore. SES launched the Automated Fingerprint Identification System 2 (AFIS2), a one-stop solution for the Singapore Police Force in 2003. AFIS2 is a fully automated system that enables computerised matching of digital images of fingerprints, palm prints, facial images, scars, marks and tattoos at a speed of 150,000 matches per second.
