ST Electronics Wins Another Contract
For MRT/MCT Lines In Taipei

SINGAPORE, 5 August 2004 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), today announced it has won another contract for Taipei’s MRT/MCT (Medium Capacity Transit) system. This latest contract, of approximately S$61.4 million, from the Alstom Transport S.A. and CTCI Corporation (Alstom/CTCI) consortium, is to provide a communications system for the Taipei Orange (Hsinchuang/Luchou) and Blue (Nankang) Lines Eastern Extension and Tetra radio system for all of Taipei’s MRT/MCT Lines.

ST Electronics will design, supply, install and commission the entire communications system. This includes migrating the current analog radio system for the existing Taipei MRT/MCT Lines to the more advanced Tetra (digital) radio system. The new communications system for the two extension lines will be integrated to the existing systems at the current Operation Control Centre. This will provide essential communication among trains, stations, depots and the control centre and ensure a safe, efficient and reliable operation. The project is expected to be completed by 2012.

ST Electronics has an established presence in rail transportation solutions for two key cities in Taiwan, namely Taipei and Kaohsiung. In Taipei city, earlier contracts included the existing communications and analog radio systems for the Orange and Blue Lines.

ST Electronics was first awarded a rail contract for the Nankang/Panchiao Line in Taipei in 1993. This was followed by other contracts including one for the Tucheng Line in 2000 and another for the Blue Line in 2001 when Typhoon Nari incapacitated some stations of the Nankang/Panchiao Line. The company proved its ability to deliver quality rail solutions and two more contracts were awarded in late 2002 and early 2003 by the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation for the Kaohsiung MRT Red and Orange Lines in the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Area.

“Having provided various rail solutions in Taiwan since 1993, we are certainly pleased to further participate in this latest project for the extension of Taipei’s rail system which will serve the city’s commuters and further enhance Taipei as a strong and reputable business hub. This latest contract allows us to further serve the Taiwanese transportation industry and strengthen our position as a leading provider of integrated solutions for rail transportation systems in the region, including China, the Philippines and Singapore."
